Technical Name – Chlorpyriphos 20% EC

Mode of Action – Elchlor 20 is a broad-spectrum insecticide which kills insects upon contact by affecting the normal function of the nervous system. Elchlor 20 affects the nervous system of insects by inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine (ACh), a neurotransmitter. When insects are exposed to Elchlor 20 then chlorpyrifos binds to the active site of the cholinesterase (ChE) enzyme, which prevents breakdown of ACh in the synaptic cleft. The resulting accumulation of ACh in the synaptic cleft cause overstimulation of the neuronal cells, which leads to neurotoxicity and eventually death of insects.
